The Vision Cam XM2 is a computer vision system in a very compact housing. It is suitable for image processing tasks with performance requirements between the IMAGO Vision Sensor PV3, the Vision Cam AI and the i-Core or ARM-based Vision Boxes. The Vision Cam XM2 is ideal for almost any type of image processing task that can be implemented with a 5MPixel resolution area scan camera. Thanks to the multicore ARM and integrated GPU as well as the free programmability, the smart embedded vision solution Vision Cam XM2 offers enormous flexibility for use in a wide variety of areas. The camera can be used as a Linux computer or its range of functions can be extended with the IMAGO framework tool ViewIT or even with ViewIT supplemented by the Halcon or other C++ libraries.

Highest computing and camera performance in a compact format

The Vision Cam XM2 impresses with its compact size and enormous performance. With a high-resolution sensor that processes up to 5 megapixels per image and 165 images per second at full resolution, it is ideal for high-speed inspection and processing applications. At VGA resolution, it can even process up to 1,400 images per second and can also be used as a line scan camera.

The integrated processor, consisting of 6x ARM Cortex A78 CPUs, 1024 GPU cores and 32 tensor cores, enables complex calculations to be carried out directly on the camera itself. This eliminates the need for additional hardware for image processing, making the Vision Cam XM2 a particularly efficient and space-saving solution. The Vision Cam XM2 is a future-oriented alternative to computers with short-lived GPUs, as it enables long-term availability and integration in line with mechanical engineering requirements.

The smart camera runs a Debian operating system. Many C-mount lenses are available on the market for the 1″ image diagonal of the sensor.

Flexible application options

The possible applications of the Vision Cam XM2 are almost limitless. Whether AI-based applications, complex pattern matching procedures or the combination of many operators – the camera is flexible and powerful enough to handle even the most demanding tasks.

Real Time Communication Controller

For the perfect control of all components, the image processing camera Vision Cam XM2 uses an integrated Real Time Communication Controller (RTCC). The latter, among other things, enables exact synchronization of conveyor belt speeds with the image processing system´s acquisition speed, the lighting control and other components of the vision system. The RTCC is an integral part of the Vision Cam XM2 and enables simple, reliable communication between the camera and the higher-level system.

Easy program development with ViewIT

In addition to computing power, the ARM-based camera Vision Cam XM also gives users full freedom with regard to programming. By using the ViewIT software platform, the user has three basic options for creating his program. Image processing beginners can use the functionality supplied in ViewIT and adapt them to their own tasks with little effort. The software framework allows users to integrate their own C++ code (interfaces and algorithms), which significantly shortens the development time.

Anyone who already has experience with development environments and image processing libraries such as Python, C ++ based tools or Halcon can easily integrate them into ViewIT as plugins. For the few applications where the range of functions of ViewIT is not sufficient, it is also possible to develop your own application in your preferred programming language using the IMAGO SDK.

The particular strength of ViewIT is that this framework automatically takes over all basic image processing functions such as image acquisition, I/O handling, protocols such as OPC/UA and RESTApi and many other tasks, so that developers can fully concentrate on solving the actual imaging task.

If an application can be solved by using a single area-scan camera, the Vision Cam XM2 is the perfect choice due to its high flexibility and performance range. The possible use cases and industries for this embedded vision system are extremely diverse, so the following examples only show a small selection of the actual options.
