So small, yet so powerful: The Vision Sensor LM is the world’s first line scan camera system in the format of a mini smart camera. With 2K line resolution and a Linux operating system as freely programmable embedded hardware, it is perfectly suited for space-constrained applications requiring high flexibility – for example in pharma, packaging, printing, or the food industry.
2K Line Scan Camera
Vision Sensor LM
Description
The Vision Sensor LM combines line scan technology, ARM-based processing power, and industrial interfaces in an ultra-compact housing – barely larger than a matchbox. As an intelligent embedded vision system, it operates entirely without an external PC.
Thanks to the integrated ViewIT framework, image processing applications can be developed efficiently – using simple templates or by integrating custom tools such as C++, Python, HALCON, or OpenCV.
With its 2K line resolution, the Vision Sensor LM is an ideal entry point into line scan camera applications.
Advantages
Compact for tight machine spaces
At only 45 × 25 × 54 mm (including S-mount lens), the Vision Sensor LM is ideal for installations with limited space. Line sensor, processing unit, illumination, and I/Os are directly integrated.
Embedded ARM processing power
The quad-core ARM processor provides sufficient performance for classical image processing – without an external PC.
Freely programmable under Linux
The Linux Debian 10 OS allows for custom applications, proprietary software modules, and full control over image acquisition, processing, and communication.
Flexible sensor & lens options
Available with either color or monochrome line sensors. S-mount or C-mount options ensure compatibility with a wide range of industrial optics.
Programmable on Linux basis
The camera uses Debian Linux for full flexibility in software development with OpenCV, C++, or Python. Its multicore ARM processor enables parallel execution of rule-based algorithms. More than 2,000 HALCON operators are directly accessible.
Industrial-grade connectors
M12 connectors, rugged cabling, and I/O options ensure reliable integration and long-term availability.
Efficient programming with ViewIT
Beginners benefit from preconfigured functions. Experts integrate their own libraries – all through one central framework with clear structure.
Target Group
The Vision Sensor LM is designed for machine builders, series developers, and OEMs who need a small, programmable line scan system in a consistent configuration – whether in mass production or in specialized solutions with limited space.
Experience in machine vision is assumed – but the open system architecture allows maximum freedom in design and integration.

FAQs about the 2K Line Scan Camera Vision Sensor LM
When should I use a line scan camera versus an area scan camera?
Line scan and area scan cameras differ fundamentally in their capture technique. While area scan cameras capture a complete image in one shot, line scan cameras scan the object line by line.
This scanning process makes line scan cameras ideal for inspecting continuous processes and very wide materials, as they achieve higher resolution and lower distortion compared to area scan cameras.
Can the Vision Sensor LM run custom algorithms?
Yes, the Vision Sensor LM can execute custom algorithms directly on the device. Users can locally implement their own image processing algorithms – for example, in C++ or Python – with access to the ViewIT framework and the IMAGO SDK.
What makes the Vision Sensor LM different from other line scan cameras?
The Vision Sensor LM is the only fully integrated mini-format line scan system with free programmability and a Linux operating system – ideal for compact applications without compromising on performance or flexibility.
What resolutions are available?
The Vision Sensor LM is delivered as standard with a 2k line sensor. Additional variants can be realized as part of OEM projects.
Can the camera capture both line scan and area scan images?
Yes, the Vision Sensor LM can capture both line scan and area scan images.
